What is Bladeless Lasik?

Bladeless Lasik is a good option for any individual interested in having vision correction surgery who is concerned about a surgical, bladed instrument being so close to the eyes. This procedure is referred to as femto Lasik, all-laser Lasik and bladeless Lasik. The procedure for vision correction uses two different kinds of lasers. The femtosecond laser is used first. This ultra fast laser creates a thin flap in the cornea. The excimer laser is then used for the reshaping of the corneal tissue for vision correction. Once the process is complete, the flap is placed back into the original position.

The Advantages of Bladeless Lasik

In most cases, if you are a candidate for traditional Lasik, you will be a candidate for bladeless Lasik as well. This procedure is well known for both the gentleness and the accuracy. When compared with traditional Lasik, the procedure offers better flap precision and more stability. The biggest complication with Lasik is the development of flap problems after the surgery. The precision of bladeless Lasik significantly reduces the possibility of this complication. Additional benefits include:

• Reduced chances of postoperative dry eye
• More accurate postoperative vision
• A short and fairly pain free recovery period
• A reduced risk of complications with the flap
• Less pressure on the eye while the patient is in surgery
• Flaps created using a laser have a lower chance of dislodging later
• Decreased chances of another operation being needed for vision correction
• The procedure is gentle

The creation of the flaps does not require the use of a blade. The process is quick and generally completed within twenty seconds. Traditional Lasik requires roughly fifteen minutes. The treatment is computerized to enable the laser beam to be accurately focused and guided according to the specific needs of each person. As the laser beam passes through the cornea, it enables easy lifting of the corneal flap. Due to the technology, the patient retains their visual sight for the entire procedure. This not only ensures the patient can see during the procedure, it offers maximum comfort.

When the individual has their sight during the procedure, they retain a constant focus. This increases the precision for the creation of the bladeless Lasik flap during the procedure. This procedure has been described as feeling like putting in soft contact lenses. Every treatment is customized for a seamless fit and the unique eye contour of the individual. This ensures the procedure is effective, reliable and has an extremely low risk of any complications. The guidance of the laser beam is precise due to high performance optics resulting in a flap with the correct thickness. The focus of the laser beam ensures minimum laser energy is required for the procedure. The tissue outside the targeted area is not touched.
