Over time, you will become increasingly likely to experience vision issues. If you develop cataracts, you may begin to have difficulty seeing nearby objects. This problem can make it difficult to apply makeup, work on your computer, and complete other important tasks. At Wichita Vision Institute in Wichita, KS, Dr. Reena Patel can use the Vivity lens to correct your vision problems.
What Is the Vivity Lens?
The Vivity lens is an FDA-approved intraocular lens that can be used to significantly improve your sight. As you age you may have difficulty seeing well enough to be productive at your job, enjoy events with your family, and do household chores. After Dr. Reena Patel implants these state-of-the-art lenses into your eyes, your far, intermediate, and near vision will improve.
These innovative lenses are very effective. During clinical trials, 92% of people who used Vivity lens said that they had good or very good vision when they were looking at objects that were an arm’s length away. Further, 94% of these people said that their distance vision was good or very good. In addition, these people experienced low amounts of halos, glares, and other visual disturbances.
Why Am I Experiencing Vision Problems?
As you get older, your vision may become cloudy, and you will become more likely to have difficulty reading books and seeing nearby objects. Cataracts and presbyopia can cause you to experience these frustrating issues.
Developing Cataracts
As you age, you may develop cataracts in your eyes. Cataracts occur when the natural lenses in your eyes become cloudy and hard. This change will make it difficult for light to move through your eyes. This issue can cause you to develop blurry vision, issues seeing at night, double vision, and other eye problems.
The negative effects of age can cause you to develop this health issue. In addition, experiencing diabetes, going through eye trauma, or taking steroids can cause cataracts to develop more quickly. Fortunately, Dr. Patel can correct cataracts by eliminating your damaged natural lens. After she has removed your cloudy lens, she will implant an intraocular lens like Vivity into your eye.
Developing Presbyopia
Presbyopia is a vision issue that occurs when you become unable to clearly see objects that are close to you. As this problem worsens, you will probably have difficulty using your smartphone and computer. In addition, you may struggle to read books and menus. You will probably notice this problem when you reach your forties.
This issue will continue to become more noticeable as you enter your sixties. Receiving the Vivity lens is a good way to improve your ability to focus on objects that are close to you.
What Is the Difference Between Vivity and Other Intraocular Lenses?
In the past, intraocular lenses divided light into different focal points. This issue caused people to see visual disturbances like glares, halos, and starbursts. Vivity uses a proprietary technology called X-WAVE to avoid these problems.
Experiencing visual problems can be a very upsetting experience. Seeing halos and other disturbances may cause you to have difficulty when you drive a car or exercise outside. Fortunately, Vivity’s X-WAVE technology will allow you to see fewer visual disturbances. In addition, these high-quality lenses will provide protection from ultra-violet rays and other damaging sources of light.
What Will Happen During the Procedure?
Dr. Patel will perform your cataract procedure at a special facility in northwest Wichita. Since you will receive IV sedation at the beginning of your procedure, you will feel relaxed during this process.
Dr. Patel will use drops and an anesthetic solution to numb your eyes. Next, she will create very small incisions in your cornea. She will make an opening into the area where your cataract is located and use ultrasound energy to break up your clouded lens. Once your lens is broken, she will use suction energy to carefully remove these materials from your eye. Finally, she will put an intraocular lens into your eye and close your incisions.
Will I Have A Long Recovery Period After I Receive My Intraocular Lens?
Receiving the Vivity lens is a minimally invasive, easy process that will take about 20 minutes to finish. After Dr. Patel has finished improving your cataracts, you will need to rest in a comfortable recovery suite for a short period of time. Once you are ready, you will be able to return to your home. Although your recovery period will vary, you will usually be able to return to your typical schedule within one week.
While your eyes are adjusting to your cataract procedure, you will need to follow some simple rules. For example, Dr. Patel will ask you to put drops into your eyes for about 30 days. In addition, you will be instructed to temporarily use sunglasses when you are spending time in bright light and put on an eye shield while you are sleeping. You will also need to avoid rubbing your eyes, wearing eye makeup, and lifting heavy objects for at least seven days.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Lens?
If you are suffering from cataracts, you will probably be a good candidate for this lens. In addition, Vivity has a toric lens option that can be used to correct astigmatism.
Before she provides your lens, Dr. Reena Patel will examine your cataracts and discuss your health. If you have a history of experiencing eye infections, autoimmune issues, or other health problems, you might need to use other methods to improve your vision. Dr. Patel can provide you with more information about your range of treatment options after she has assessed your eyes.
Improve Your Vision
Developing vision problems can prevent you from using your smartphone, working on your computer, and driving a car. If you would like to enhance your vision and reduce your dependency on glasses, you should consider getting the Vivity lens at Wichita Vision Institute in Wichita, KS. As your vision improves, you will feel more comfortable when you use a computer, do household chores, and enjoy social events with your family members.

Category: cataract surgeryDr. Patel is a physician whose sincere goal is to improve the quality of life for her patients. When I first became a patient under Dr. Patel’s care, I was diagnosed with cataracts in both of my eyes; dry eye syndrome; and astigmatism. Previous records from my Lasik surgery, which occurred 17 years ago, were no longer available. The Lasik surgery documentation was important in determining the exact corrections that now needed to be made to properly correct my astigmatism. Dr. Patel wisely recommended I postpone the cataract removal and astigmatism correction procedure, until she received newly developed diagnostic equipment. This newly developed technology would provide her with the most accurate metrics possible. New specialized lens implants were also becoming available, which would correct my astigmatism. Dr. Patel explained my chances for a successful outcome would be significantly increased if I would be patient and wait a little longer. Dr. Patel is truly a physician with high integrity and would never perform surgery until she knew it was the right time. She truly cares about providing her patients with the best care she can. Dr. Patel successfully treated my dry eye symptoms with a regiment of eye drops, cleansing techniques and vitamins, which prevented me from requiring more extensive - and more expensive treatment. Prior to the surgery on my right eye, she provided me with sample eye drops from her office and coupons for the eye drops I would need to purchase after my surgery. She did all she could to reduce my expenses. During preparations for right eye surgery, Dr. Patel spent quality time with me explaining the results of my pre-surgery testing and asking questions to determine my vision goals. One of my desires was to once again see the front sight on a pistol. I thoroughly enjoyed going to the firing range, but due to the cataract in my right eye I could no longer see the sights, on my pistol. Although the cataract in my left eye was not as bad yet – I was also experiencing difficulty seeing and firing left handed. Using a blue gun (authentic plastic replica of a Sig P229 pistol), Dr. Patel took additional measurements which she used in determining the correct lens to implant, during my surgery. My right eye surgery took place on November 1, 2017. Two days after the surgery, I happened to glance at my mobile phone and for the first time in 10 years or more, I could read the information on the screen without glasses. I pulled the Sig out of its case and – wow! – The sight picture was there clear as a bell. So the right eye cataract is gone along with the rainbow halos around cars at night and the astigmatism has been corrected better than I dreamed possible. Quality of life restored! The process included the latest diagnostic equipment; the newest technology in an intraocular lens implant; and the use of a laser surgery technique performed by Dr. Patel. Sadly, insurance does not cover much of the cost for the process that produces the optimal results. When it comes to the long term correction of your vision and significant increase in the quality of life it is well worth the investment. Dr. Patel is a very accomplished and highly competent physician and surgeon. I will be forever grateful to her for restoring my vision. I highly recommend Dr. Patel. Life Changing!

Category: lasik surgeryI love Dr. Patel! After having my dreams crushed at another place when they told me I wasn't a candidate, I went to Dr Patel for a lasik consultation. She is very thorough and gave me information about my eyes that no doctor in almost 20 years has told me. A week ago I had Lasik and it has been life changing! I couldn't be happier and I'm so glad I chose Dr Patel. She truly cares about her patients and her passion shows. The wait time can be very long, but if you are prepared for that ahead of time, you won't be disappointed once you see the doctor. I'm recommending WVI to everyone I know. She is now the only doctor I trust for my eyes.
Impressed with Dr. Patel and Staff

Category: cataract surgeryI first saw Dr. Patel about 6 years ago when my left eye wandered to the left side and stayed there. She sent me to the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City for further evaluation. No reason was ever found as to why it did that but it corrected itself after about two months. Since then I have been seeing Dr. Patel regularly. I damaged the left eye in an accident and had to have a vitrectomy performed. She referred me to another specialist Dr. Paul Weishaar and that outcome was also great. The eye did develop a cataract and she performed that surgery a few months ago and suggested a plan for treating dry eyes. It was outstanding and since wearing glasses for over 50 years, I now just wear sunglasses. Simply amazing. Dr. Patel and her staff are the greatest and they know other great professionals if the need arises. They also do charity work and they are all a total blessing to me. I would not even consider going anywhere else. Just gotta love them.
