Many of Dr. Reena Patel’s surgical patients like to complement their vision improvement with facial rejuvenation treatment. Dr. Patel offers several types of cosmetic services at Wichita Vision Institute to accommodate her patients.
BOTOX® continues to be one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments. Most commonly used to smooth wrinkles between the eyebrows, BOTOX® is also FDA-approved to treat severe underarm sweating and control muscle spasms; some physicians use it off-label to treat other facial wrinkles, such as horizontal forehead lines or crow’s feet.
BOTOX® is a purified form of botulinum toxin. When injected, BOTOX® freezes the muscles that contract and cause lines and wrinkles. Results last up to several months, and regular repeat treatment is necessary to maintain the results.
Approved by the FDA in 2008, LATISSE® is a prescription-only product that lengthens, thickens and darkens eyelashes. Available with a prescription, LATISSE® is a topical solution that should be applied to the upper lash line every night. You will usually see results within two months, with full results by three to four months. If you stop using LATISSE®, your eyelashes will gradually return to their original appearance.
JUVÉDERM® is a smooth-gel injectable filler that adds volume to the face in areas where it has diminished naturally over time. JUVÉDERM® can be used to soften and smooth nasolabial folds, marionette lines and forehead lines. It is also used to enhance the size and shape of the lips. Some medical professionals use it on under-eye circles or the tear troughs. JUVÉDERM® is made of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that is found naturally in the body. Dr. Patel will inject JUVÉDERM® into the area of the patient’s face that needs plumping. The outcome looks very natural. In addition, if too much filler is placed, some of the effect can be reversed. Treatment should be continued regularly to maintain the results.
Restylane® is another hyaluronic acid-based injectable filler that is used for several purposes. It is most commonly used to smooth facial wrinkles (particularly around the mouth) such as deep nasolabial folds. Restylane® is also used to add fullness and definition to thin lips. Some medical professionals use it to fill in depressed acne scars. The result of Restylane® treatment is smooth, supple skin that looks youthful and healthy. To maintain these results, repeat treatment is recommended.
