Blade Free LASIK Eye Surgery

Blade Free LASIK Eye Surgery

Blade Free LASIK Eye Surgery is also known as “all-laser LASIK” or bladeless LASIK. Dr. Patel uses two different lasers to perform Blade-Free LASIK Eye Surgery. She uses the IntraLase femtosecond laser to create a customized corneal flap and then uses the VISX S4 excimer laser to reshape the cornea. Blade-Free LASIK Eye Surgery has become very popular in recent years due to several advantages it has over conventional LASIK.

Blade Free LASIK Eye Surgery allows for more customization of corneal flaps, which results in superior post-operative outcomes. Dr. Reena Patel can tailor the dimensions of your corneal flap for each of your eyes using IntraLase laser technology. The IntraLase laser creates small, cool, quick pulses of laser light, which produce a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles at a specific depth and position in the cornea determined by Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel then gently separates the tissue at the site of the bubbles to create a corneal flap. She then folds the flap back and reshapes your cornea with the VISX excimer laser. After the cornea has been reshaped, she replaces the corneal flap back in its original position.

Over 3,000,000 procedures have been performed with Blade Free LASIK Eye Surgery using IntraLase technology. In various clinical trials, more patients achieved 20/20 vision or better with blade-free LASIK when compared to other LASIK techniques. Patients have also reported better-quality vision overall, especially in low-light conditions and at night.

A clinical survey of LASIK patients who had a corneal flap created with IntraLase technology in one eye and a microkeratome in the other eye revealed that the patients who stated a preference preferred the vision in the blade-free eye vs. the microkeratome eye, by a margin of three to one.

The IntraLase laser can also make thinner flaps, potentially allowing more patients the opportunity to have LASIK. Some patients that have been told in the past that they were not LASIK candidates due to thin corneas now may be able to have LASIK thanks to IntraLase technology.

iDesign

iDesign is a breakthrough in laser vision correction technology that is has been approved by the FDA to help you set down the glasses and take in everything on your own.

The iDesign system is able to generate a high-definition scan to pinpoint abnormalities within the eye that may affect your sight capabilities. This system is designed with precision in mind, creating more accurate scans and helping Dr. Patel provide the best possible LASIK experience. If you find yourself struggling with your vision and are ready to see life without the aid of glasses, the iDesign combined with LASIK may benefit you.

VISX S4 Laser

Dr. Reena Patel uses the VISX S4 excimer laser to reshape the corneal tissue during your LASIK procedure. The VISX S4 laser features variable spot scanning and variable repetition rate that allow Dr. Patel to conserve corneal tissue by minimizing the thermal effects on the cornea, optimizing patient treatment times, and maximizing patient safety.

The VISX S4 laser can also integrate data obtained from the iDesign system; thus your LASIK procedure can be guided by images and an individualized corneal map that is generated with iDesign data. This enhances the accuracy of the treatment and leads to superior outcomes.

No pupil dilation is needed for LASIK surgery with the VISX S4 laser. The laser features Active Trak™ technology which tracks your natural pupil during your LASIK procedure to further improve treatment precision.

iDesign LASIK

iDesign LASIK is a special customized LASIK surgery in which the iDesign diagnostic system captures hundreds of data points that reflect the unique imperfections in each eye. The iDesign software is able to detect higher-order aberrations that may not show up through other diagnostic modalities. The iDesign then converts the data into an individualized blueprint of each eye. This iDesign blueprint is then integrated into the VISX S4 excimer laser, which then produces an individualized custom treatment plan for each eye to reshape your cornea. A microkeratome or the IntraLase laser makes a thin LASIK flap. The VISX S4 laser is then used to reshape the cornea with a personalized treatment for each eye.

Custom IntraLase LASIK Procedure

Custom IntraLase LASIK is a special customized LASIK surgery in which the iDesign diagnostic system takes thousands of data points which reflect the unique imperfections in the eye to create an individualized blueprint of each eye. This blueprint is then sent to the VISX S4 laser to formulate a customized laser treatment and provide you with a personalized treatment for each eye.
The IntraLase femtosecond laser allows Dr. Reena Patel to tailor the dimensions of your corneal flap for each of your eyes, thus creating a customized LASIK flap. The IntraLase laser creates small, cool, quick pulses of laser light that produce a uniform layer of microscopic bubbles at a specific depth and position in the cornea, as determined by Dr. Reena Patel. She then gently separates the tissue at the site of the bubbles to create a corneal flap. Dr. Reena Patel then folds the flap back and uses the VISX S4 excimer to reshape your cornea using the individualized iDesign data to complete your custom treatment. After the cornea has been reshaped, she replaces the corneal flap back to its original position.

Custom IntraLase LASIK does allow for the creation of thinner corneal flaps versus a microkeratome flap. In addition, it has been associated with a reduced risk of flap-related complications as compared to a microkeratome. Another advantage is the enhanced accuracy achieved by taking the pre-operative fingerprint of the eye’s unique refractive error. The iDesign software is able to detect higher-order aberrations that may not show up through other diagnostic modalities.

All servicemen and women in all branches of the US military and NASA are allowed to have LASIK surgery thanks to studies using this technology. Wichita Vision Institute is excited to bring you this customized cutting-edge technology.

Custom IntraLase LASIK is highly technical and requires clinical expertise. Dr. Reena Patel has the experience and training necessary to perform this procedure with great precision for optimal vision correction and a more comfortable experience for her patients.
